Back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see us — and also one of the most frustrating things to deal with on your own. It can make getting out of bed feel like a negotiation, turn a simple commute into an ordeal, and make a good night’s sleep feel like something other people get to have.

At Woolston Wellness Center, we don’t treat the symptoms in isolation. We work to understand what’s actually causing your pain and build a plan to address it properly — so relief isn’t just temporary.

What’s Behind Your Back Pain?

Back pain usually falls into one of two categories:

Acute pain has a clear starting point — a fall, an accident, lifting something the wrong way. You know what happened, and now you need help healing it properly rather than hoping it resolves on its own.

Chronic pain builds over time — from posture, repetitive strain, aging, or an old injury that was never fully resolved. It tends to flare up, settle down, then flare up again. Left unaddressed, it usually gets worse.

Either way, we’ll listen to your history, examine what’s happening in your spine and surrounding muscles, and put together a personalized care plan that makes sense for where you are right now.

How Chiropractic Care Helps

Medication can take the edge off pain, but it doesn’t fix what’s causing it. Chiropractic care works differently. Through hands-on adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and targeted exercises, we help your body heal and move the way it’s meant to.

Many patients come to us after months of relying on pills and not getting better. Chiropractic care is safe, non-invasive, and doesn’t carry the side effects of long-term medication use. We’ll explain everything we do and make sure you feel comfortable at every step.

Does Your Sleep Position Make It Worse?

It might. Sleep is supposed to be restorative — but if you’re already dealing with back pain, the wrong position can leave you waking up worse than when you went to bed. Here’s what we generally recommend:

Best: On your back. This distributes your weight evenly and keeps your spine in its natural alignment. A pillow under your knees takes additional pressure off your lower back.

Good: On your side. Place a pillow between your bent knees to keep your hips aligned. Make sure your mattress isn’t sagging — a soft or unsupported surface can undo any benefit from your sleep position.

Avoid: On your stomach. This forces an unnatural arch in your spine and puts strain on your neck and lower back. If it’s the only position you can fall asleep in, try placing a pillow under your hips to reduce the hyperextension.
